Easy Bagel recipe.
1 kg Unbleached Organic Flour
1 Tbsp Salt
4 Tbsp Sugar
2 Tbsp Oil
500ml Warm Water ***
2 Tbsp Demerara Sugar for Poaching
2 – 3 Baking Sheets
What You Do:
Mix the flour, salt, and yeast in a big bowl. Melt the sugar in the warm water and add the oil, then add it to the dry ingredients and mix very well.
Take the dough and knead very well. When done kneading put the dough in a bowl some more oil, roll the dough over once to cover the top, then leave to dough to rest for 2 hours. When the dough is done rising take it out and knead it again. After the knead, split the dough into about eight round balls, take a jam jar and make a hole in the middle of each ball and gently press it down until you have a shape that looks like a bagel.
Place all the bagels onto the baking trays and leave them to rest.
Now you want to get your water ready, take a big pot and fill it about halfway with water let it boil then add the sugar and mix, take your bagels and gently put them in the water for 3 min, then turn them over and leave them for another 3 min, take your bagels and put them back onto the baking trays and put them in the oven for half an hour, or until golden brown.
Take your bagels out of the oven and let them cool down. Now your bagels are done and you get to enjoy all your hard work.
